💜 A Message from the Principal
It is so exciting to return after the holiday break. Students, teachers, and staff have had time to rest, spend time with
family, and have a little fun. January is an important month at our school. It is time to jump back into learning,
complete middle of the year assessments, and set new goals that will carry us into spring. Take a moment to consider
attendance and good habits at home as we settle into this solid month of instruction. Look at the suggestions below,
reach out to teachers if needed, and most of all welcome back!

🧰What is Acadience Reading?
Beginning January 12 we will be administering the middle of the year Acadience tests in Math and Reading. Teachers
may also be giving iReady diagnostic tests, and possibly RISE Interim assessments. Each of these tools is used to
determine current student levels and set new goals for learning. It is important that you as a parent understand these
tools, what they are used for, and how to help your student at home. You will be given results at Parent Teacher
Conferences. If you have questions please be sure to ask. Check out this brief video on understanding the Acadience
Tests.

🤔Consider Attendance!
● Did you know?
❖ Students should miss no more than 9 days of school each year to stay engaged, successful and on
track to graduation.
❖ By 6th grade, absenteeism is one of three signs that a student may drop out of high school.
● What can you do:
❖ Make school attendance a priority.
❖ Talk about the importance of showing up to school every day, make that the expectation.
❖ Help your child maintain daily routines, such as finishing homework and getting a good night’s
sleep.
❖ Try not to schedule vacations, dental, or medical appointments during school days.
❖ Don’t let your child stay home unless truly sick. Complaints of headaches or stomach aches may be
signs of anxiety.
